When the digging and building is done, and it’s time to landscape, we are going to need flowers, shrubbery, and trees. When we are done, we want to be surrounded by a lush pasture of wildflowers and grasses, fruit trees that yield plumbs and apples now, not eight years from now. So, to help mature our patch of heaven a bit faster and give our friends another way to help out in a real and visible way, we are going to be accepting donations of greenery and stone, contracting with arborists and gardeners to transplant your live donated trees and shrubbery.
Sometimes you feel the need to change your own property, build a deck, clear some space. We want those mature plants that you want gone! Trees under 25 feet (ca. 8 m) tall can, with great preparation, be transplanted, and fields take years to carpet themselves with flowers and mosses. We want to collect those pieces and bring them to Hobbiton to mature the landscape quicker than if we planted everything from scratch. When the construction is done, we want to be transported that day to the peaceful hills and trees of the Shire.
Opening day should be magical, so to help that along, we are looking to you again. Many things you can do will not be as real and truly impacting to you as being able to visit the garden that holds your grandmother’s iris patch or the plumb tree dad planted that you couldn’t take with you to your next house. An authentic community memory garden! All written down in the log and map of the property. Hopefully, a special place to honor the inspiration for the Shire. Maybe even an Oak seedling brought over from the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien if we're lucky. Think of the love this place will get. Every person who stays with us or has a wedding under the Party Tree will be bringing the good vibes that can only spread and nourish all who walk the grounds.
A little ethereal, I’ll admit, but believing in whimsy is kind of the point of this place. So, while you are working through your spring and autumn plans, keep in mind there will soon be a forever home for your greenery.
